Random Delights

Holly: Sorry to hear your hamster died Bob... Bob: Window cleaners for British rail should watch out for flying man-eating deckchairs today, swimming in from the south along with the flea-ridden coathangers. The muffin man is responsible for the sudden outburst of rain yesterday as he forgot to pay the rent on his blue strawberries. I'm sorry, did you say you wanted a biscuit? Holly: Random! Custard cream please.

Humble beginnings

When I was a little kid, my grandma was known throughout the land as the meanest (and I mean that in a good sense) baker around. There is still no one to date, to rival her sponge cake, cream lillies or German cake. Perhaps it is more the sense of sweet memories, but whatever the case I appear to have inherited her ability to love all things sugar. I didn't really bake all that much whilst I was still at home, and when I left home, I was too busy eating everyone elses baking to worry about my own.

Still that quiet persistance, clearly inherited from my very wise grandma, stayed with me. I started making birthday cakes for friends birthdays when I moved to London. The sugar-filled poison sold in shops, that was supposed to be considered a cake, did not cut it with Mishy. So I staged a rebellion, and have since discovered the true magic of chocolate. Somewhere along the way the humble beginnings of a cake making business developed. I was just looking back over some of my previous attempts, and thought they might amuse some people.

About a month ago this crazy thing happened.... I was asked to make a wedding cake. Now in my imagination, that was a simply undertaking... In reality... you think of the 3 things most important to a bride... Dress, Flowers, Cake.... (well husband I suppose, but that's a given really)... Needless to say many sleepless nights were my new friend. Considering that I have never made a wedding cake before, I was pretty impressed with my fledgling efforts. Anyway... may these humble beginnings be the start of a wonderous dream...

PS do you reckon one of those pretty cakes would survive a trip to Australia? I think it would be worth a shot... did you remember it's my birthday in just 41 short days? (Otherwise calculated as 3,542,400 seconds, or 59,040 minutes, or 984 hours)
