Did someone say wedding?

Needless to say, Neil and Debbie are lovers of people, and there was no shortage of people who wanted to help make their day the most special and spectacular.
About 6 months ago, Debbie approached me and asked me to make their wedding cakes. I replied that I would be honoured to do such a thing. How hard could it be....? So, I started making cakes for the wedding about 1 week prior and stashing them in the freezer. My poor work colleagues and flat-mates had to contend with dodgy and irregular shaped cakes, to eat as they were discarded in the quest for the perfect cake. I never realised that this would be the most incredibly hard bit of all. I guess it stems from the all important question of what cake would they like to have... I should have checked 6 months ago. As my signature cake is chocolate mud-cake it never occured to me, that they might want a sponge cake. Until I rang and checked 2 weeks prior.... Oppps... there goes my tried and tested recipe, and in with a whole heap of experimenting to find the most delicious chocolate sponge cake recipe.
1 dozen eggs and a disastrous result later, I emailed a beautiful, beautiful lady who saved my bacon.... (or eggs as the case may be). Thanks to Bronwyn the super-chef extrodinaire, who generously donated her recipe for sponge cake, I was able to sort out the cakes. Then they just had to be decorated.... Now what to do... Knowing that Debbie HATES roses, and anything specifically 'GIRLY', made the task that little bit more difficult.... I was seriously worried about what to do, but thanks to divine intervention I came up trumps. When Debbie and I first chatted about cakes about 6 months ago, she said she wanted a chocolate cake, carrot cake and lemon sponge. Then she handed me some glitterized netting, and edible gold pearls. So somehow, I fashioned a somewhat hap-hazard attempt at wedding cake finery.... I must admit (for the first time) that the 'ruffle effect' around the bottom of the cakes, is due to the fact, that I didn't cover them properly as the icing got too hot and started to get melty. Thankfully, it looked like I did it on purpose. I covered it all with a bit of edible glitter paint, and no one was any the wiser.
Yippeee hooray. Debbie did trick me though... Way back when we first started discussing it, she said there would be no cake-cutting, and when I arrived, I found out that the cakes were going centre of the room....!!! Just as well, I grabbed a table-cloth to cover the table with, or I would have looked a bit sheepish.
