Random Delights

Holly: Sorry to hear your hamster died Bob... Bob: Window cleaners for British rail should watch out for flying man-eating deckchairs today, swimming in from the south along with the flea-ridden coathangers. The muffin man is responsible for the sudden outburst of rain yesterday as he forgot to pay the rent on his blue strawberries. I'm sorry, did you say you wanted a biscuit? Holly: Random! Custard cream please.

Colouring my World - 2007

What you are seeing folks ... is the delightful welcome sign in the ROYAL ALBERT HALL, for 3000 women attending Colour 2007. To be able to help host + serve at such a prestigious event hall was overwhelming.

Colour 2007 started for me on Thursday morning, as I pulled myself from bed at 7am, to get to New Covent Garden market to buy and transport flowers for a pre-Colour party for some guests. I never realised how heavy flowers could be. After buying all the correct coloured flowers, I then had to figure out how to find a cab in the midst of peak-hour travel. After waiting about 20 minutes for a cab, I finally decided to risk the tube. As I was walking to the tube, I waved at a lovely friend of mine and I called out 'Morning Princess'. At which point she realised I was carrying flowers for Colour. As I was asking about where to find a cab, she rode off and found a cab company just up the road. Prasie the Lord for faithful friends and cab companies.

I spent the rest of the day buying coffees for people at the office and making sure everyone had enough Krispy Kreme doughnuts. I had some friends come and stay the night on Thursday, as we all had to be up and ready to help make the foyer beautiful at 5am. So at the delightfully early hour of 3.15am I was up and showering. Then by 4.30am all 5 of us beautiful girls piled into a cab and descended upon the Royal Albert Hall.

It was a flurry of activity over the next 4 hours, ensuring that there was enough black table-cloth (there was just enough). Enough lamps, (not nearly enough as we appeared to have lost about 20). I discovered very early on, that I should have invested in blue tooth for my phone. I was running about with all my fabulous team, throwing pens, safety pins, markers, flowers, vases, lamps, signs all over the place.

I believe some of the phone conversations went like this ...

"Mish speaking..."

"Mish, where are the signs for resource"

"I have no idea, they are still missing. I have sent a team to find them. Will keep you updated."

"Mish speaking ... "

"Mish, where is the rest of the black cloth?"

"We have used it all. You need to start sticking the smaller bits together."

"Mish speaking ... "

"Mish, the mothers room needs to be sorted... "

"I am right on it" (not on it at all and started to freak at this point)

"Mish speaking ... "

"Mish, where are the white hand-towels?"

"I do not know, but there is a team of girls looking for them." (incidently, the towels were found in the fridge - go figure).

Now you have a little idea of what my Friday morning looked like. After about 4 hours of mayhem, we got it all looking beautiful.

After changing into slightly less sweaty clothes, I stepped into the stalls and began my Colour 2007 journey. It was magnificent, glorious, challenging, inspiring, fun, heart-wrenching, and life changing. I was challenged to become part of a sisterhood of women who are willing to do just something to help change the world. Want to taste just a little of what we experienced check out www.invisiblechildren.com

After having our hearts softened to the plight of so many children, we were serenaded by some wonderful singers. And finally ... as we stepped out of the Royal Albert Hall, we were kissed by heaven.

Towels in the fridge - of course, that makes so much sense, where else would they be?! Thanks Mishy, for painting such a great picture - you have a talent for sharing the details that make me smile :-)

    You're amazing!
