Random Delights

Holly: Sorry to hear your hamster died Bob... Bob: Window cleaners for British rail should watch out for flying man-eating deckchairs today, swimming in from the south along with the flea-ridden coathangers. The muffin man is responsible for the sudden outburst of rain yesterday as he forgot to pay the rent on his blue strawberries. I'm sorry, did you say you wanted a biscuit? Holly: Random! Custard cream please.

Things I did today ... !!

Sometimes I can't sleep.... so I write lists of jobs to do. Here's my list from last night...
  • Make birthday cake
  • Do Washing
  • Vaccum room
  • Post christmas mail
  • Update blog
  • Email Jo and Amy so they know I am alive still
  • Create birthday shrine, so my cards can be displayed
  • Remind everyone it is my birthday in 2 sleeps
  • Pick up parcels from Post Office (the ones that don't fit through my post box)
  • Transfer money for rent
  • Write university assignment
  • Update Ipod music selection
  • Register for Intrigue event next Friday
  • Make appointment for eyebrow shaping... (nah just kidding...)

Did I do all those things... Never. But the fun of writing lists is editing them as you go. I decided to edit the university assignment out of my day. And spent most of the day cooking and cleaning. My most satisfying moment was purging our bathroom of some weird, black slimely mould. Not exactly sure which combination of industrial strength cleaners did the job, but gone it is...

Of those things on the list, my favourite part of the day was smelling the sweet chocolately cakes being made. No, actually it was picking up the parcels from the Post Office. The thing I love most about those parcels were the thought that had gone into them. Mum and Dad already gave me money to buy a watch for my birthday.... but true to form, they sent me a present as well.

They (and when I say 'they 'I mean mum) sent the best present... I was in need of a decoration for my cake. Now I wanted to keep it inexpensive, but somehow extravagant. The present from them was a fabulous purple, sparkly star-filled stick thingy. It will be the piece-de-resistance of my 3-layer chocolate cake. I figure if you can make your own cake, then spectacular it should be. And, whislt I am at it... I think that story stands testimony to the boo-hooers out there who don't believe in a birthday month. If I had waited until Saturday to open their present, then I would never have known that I didn't have to buy an inexpensive, yet extravagant cake-topper. So, I think I speak for everyone, when I say ... Just do it. Open that present. Enjoy it and saver the moment. It is all the sweeter for spending all month being excited about you birthday.

Funny... this wasn't the blog post I was going to write. In my head it was much better... Funny that. But, at least I managed 1 blog for September.
