Colour 2008 - foyer team revisited
"Mish speaking ... "
"Mish, where are the white hand-towels?"
"I do not know, but there is a team of girls looking for them." (incidently, the towels were found in the fridge - go figure).
Do you remember that conversation from last years blog? It's funny the things that stick with you. I was so prepared this year, you would not even believe it. I had my hallway taken up with stuff for weeks leading up to Colour 2008. I had 30 white handtowels in my hallway ready to get to the appropriate places. I used huge white stickers to put on the bag labelled 'Green Room'. Despite my best efforts, I still took several phone calls regarding those peskily towels.
This year, I only had 1 girl staying with me the night before. We had a relatively earlyish night, but I was still sewing tables cloths until 11pm the night before.... that we didn't even end up using. We had a call time of 4.30pm, so we had to get a cab again. Just as well I asked for an extra big cab, as we did not have any room to spare. I don't think the cab driver knew what hit him, as we had such a lot of stuff to carry in. Thankfully, we were able to park, right outside the front door.
Thanks to some hard work on behalf of my leader Joel, much planning had gone into the foyer this year. We felt ready to take on the world, as every area had an allocated leader and extra team to help get it ready. I had an incredibly team around me to help bring it all together...
Yet, despite the best laid plans the following are actually conversations...
"Mish speaking..."
"Hi Mish, we can't find the Network lounge, and now we are a bit lost. What should we do?"
"Find door 6, come back to ground floor and we'll figure it out..."
"Mish speaking... "
"Hi Mish, remember last year we couldn't find the Network sign.... well we still can't find it..."
"Hmmm.... I'm so on it.... leave it with me... "
(not on it, not sure where it was, but it turned up eventually)
"Mish speaking ... "
"Hi Mish, the doors open in 30 minutes and the hired black cloth, still hasn't arrived... "
"Okay.... I'll fix that sooonish"
(sort of fixed it, by ringing my leader about 4 times and eventually the cloths turned up with 15 minutes to spare)
In the end, despite some incredible budgetary constraints, Lucy and her team created the most sumptious flowers I have seen. To this day, I stand in awe of Lucy and her team, in creating the most spectacular decorations. They did such a wonderful job, despite the vases also going missing temporarily.
We had a few mis-haps with sewn yellow satin, used for the Sisterhood area, to hang the profiles of Women with HIV. We had some great guys playing match the photos, as some had been misplaced. I was well-impressed with all their committment to serving. All the guys did a spectacular job and always with a smile on the their face.
I have so many other stories, but for now I hesitate, as my sleepy eyes are calling me to sleep.
